Description
Château fort de Weckmund is one of three medieval castles in picturesque Eguisheim, Alsace. Built of distinctive pink sandstone in the 12th century, it impresses with its square tower and the remains of its residential chambers and St. Pancras Chapel.
According to local legends, the castle's three towers symbolize springs of fire, water and a gold mine. They are also said to have served as sundials for workers on the plain.
The château is part of the scenic 'Route des Cinq Châteaux', offering not only a history lesson, but also stunning views of the surrounding forests and hills.
