Description
Château du Kagenfels is a fascinating castle dating back to 1262, built by Albrecht von Kage. Situated at an altitude of 673 meters in the Obernai Forest, this granite fortress impresses with its unique defensive system with superb archery and beautiful stonework.
Although the castle was destroyed four times in the 14th and 15th centuries and is currently in poor condition, archaeological and restoration work has been underway since 2002, revealing its richness and size.
The forest surrounding the castle offers hiking opportunities, and the local legend of the giant 'Baumklopfer' adds a mysterious charm to the place.
