Description
The Mourgues Hill is a charming 7-hectare forest park in the heart of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon that delights with its history and tranquility.
The former religious estate hides traces of ermitage, including the tomb of Père Crouzet-Lacombe, the last chartreux of Villeneuve, who lived here after the Revolution. At the top of the hill is the Notre-Dame de Consolation chapel with frescoes by Albert Martin depicting the traditional Saint-Marc festival associated with vines and wine.
Viewpoints offer breathtaking panoramas of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, Avignon and even Mont Ventoux. A unique attraction is the Verdure Theater, built in 2003 from stone steps and old railroad tracks.
