Description

Château du Wasigenstein is a fascinating medieval castle ruin located on two rocky protrusions separated by a natural fissure. It's a place shrouded in legend about Walther of Aquitaine, whose last battle was said to have taken place here.

Despite partial destruction during the Thirty Years' War, the rock-cut staircase, apartments, Gothic windows and defensive walls have survived. From 350 meters above sea level there are picturesque views of the surrounding countryside.

An ideal destination for history and nature lovers, accessible for free after a short hike along the marked GR 53 trail.
