Memorial to USAAF Pilots

Memorial to USAAF Pilots is a moving historical memorial honoring two American pilots, Lieutenants William J. Tippett and Walter C. McConnell Jr. who were killed in action over Arles on August 14, 1944.

A black granite plaque with inscriptions in French and English and the French and US flags symbolize the pilots' alliance and sacrifice during World War II.

The monument is an important part of the history of the liberation of France from Nazi occupation and is a tribute to the courage of American soldiers.
