Description

Eternal Silence is a fascinating 10-foot bronze sculpture, also known as the Dexter Graves Monument or Death Statue, located in Chicago's Graceland Cemetery.

Created by famous American sculptor Lorado Taft in 1909, it depicts a hooded figure standing in front of a black granite slab.

The sculpture is shrouded in mysterious legends - it is said that if you look into her eyes, you will see your own death. This unique work of art in the Art Nouveau style commemorates Dexter Graves, one of the first settlers who brought thirteen families to Chicago from Ohio in the 1800s.
