Description
The Panayias Phaneromenis Church is one of the largest churches in Nicosia, built in 1872 on the site of a former Orthodox monastery dating back to 1715.
The temple impresses with its unique combination of Byzantine, Latin and Neoclassical architectural styles. Inside you can admire magnificent frescoes and paintings dating from the 16th-20th centuries, created by various artists, including M. Taliadoros and Adamantios Diamantis.
To the east of the church is a marble mausoleum containing the relics of the bishops and priests executed by the Ottomans on July 9, 1821 - a testament to Cyprus' turbulent history.
