Description

Ayia Napa Cathedral is a jewel of sacred architecture in the heart of Limassol, Cyprus. This Greek Orthodox temple impresses with its three-nave structure, marble iconostasis and frescoes adorning the dome.

The cathedral was built on the ruins of an older Byzantine church, which adds to its historic charm. Inside you can admire the silver-covered Ayia Napa icon, a valuable religious artifact.

The name 'Ayia Napa' comes from the icon of the Virgin Mary discovered in the forest, where 'napa' in Latin means forest. According to other sources, it refers to a Frankish-era temple dedicated to the Holy Shroud.
