Description
Colossi Castle is a medieval fortress located in Cyprus, near the city of Limassol. This three-story local stone building, with walls 1.5 meters thick, hides a fascinating history dating back to 1210.
Originally built by the Knights of St. John, it later passed into the hands of the Knights Templar, only to revert back to the Knights. The castle's current form dates from the 15th century and is attributed to Louis de Magnac.
The castle played an important economic role as a center of sugar production, one of Cyprus' main export commodities in the Middle Ages. Louis de Magnac's coat of arms can be seen on the walls, adding to the historical significance of the place.
