Description
Panagia Faneromeni is a unique church in Larnaca, Cyprus, combining spirituality with a fascinating history. Built in 1920 in the style of a basilica with a dome and two bell towers, it hides extraordinary secrets.
Next to the church is a rock-cut Mycenaean tomb dating back to 1200 BC, which later served as catacombs for persecuted Christians. The temple is named after a local tradition, according to which a resident had a dream about an apparition of the Virgin Mary and holy water near the ancient tomb.
The catacombs attract pilgrims who believe in their magical properties - tradition says that those suffering from headaches or illness should go around the site three times.
