Description
ΠΑΓΚΥΠΡΙΟΝ ΓΥΜΝΑΣΙΟΝ is the oldest secondary school still in operation in Cyprus, founded in 1812 by Archbishop Kyprianos during Ottoman rule.
This historic institution hides fascinating secrets, including a crypt beneath the main entrance that was used for secret meetings of the revolutionary Philiki Eteria organization. According to local legend, there is an underground passage connecting the crypt to the Archbishopric, which remains undiscovered to this day.
The school grounds include a 12-room museum displaying the history of education in Cyprus, along with archaeological, numismatic and art collections.
