Description
Pafos Castle is a fascinating historical monument located in the port of Kato Paphos, Cyprus. This rectangular fortress combines elements of Byzantine, Genoese and Ottoman architecture, making it a unique witness to the island's turbulent history.
Originally built as a Byzantine fortress, it was destroyed by the Venetians and rebuilt by the Ottomans in the 16th century. Today you can admire the dungeons, the blancs and the remains of the former mosque.
The castle also serves as the backdrop for the annual Paphos Cultural Festival, which takes place in September.
