Miyako Odori

Miyako Odori is a unique performance of traditional Japanese dances performed by geisha and maiko (geisha disciples) in the heart of Kyoto's historic Gion district.

Launched in 1875 as an initiative to restore Kyoto's cultural prestige, it has become a symbol of geisha heritage.

Every April, you can enjoy precisely coordinated performances by up to 32 dancers and 20 musicians, dressed in identical, exquisite kimonos. The performance combines classical Japanese themes, folklore and scenes from everyday life, often inspired by famous works like 'The Tale of Prince Genjim.
