Description
Cromwell's Castle is a fascinating fortification on the Isle of Tresco in the Scilly archipelago. This 1651 stone cylindrical artillery tower was built at the behest of Sir Robert Blake following the Parliamentary invasion of the islands at the end of the English Civil War.
With walls nearly 4 meters thick and 15 meters high, the castle offers unforgettable views of the surrounding waters and islands. Inside, you'll find a preserved ribbed vault and a spiral staircase leading to the roof, where six wide gun ports provided a full field of fire.
This is the perfect place for military history buffs and families looking for an educational adventure.
