Description
The Barica Kumica statue is a unique symbol of Zagreb's cultural heritage, created by sculptor Stjepan Gračan in 2006.
It commemorates the women called 'kumica' who have been selling fresh produce at Dolac market for generations. The statue, modeled after Đurđica Jančec, a kumica who has traded at the market for more than 50 years, depicts a woman in traditional dress with a basket on her head.
It is not only a tourist attraction, but also an important part of the local community's identity, telling a story about the strength, tradition and role of women in Croatian culture.
