Description
Chislehurst Caves is a fascinating system of underground tunnels 22 miles long, located 30 meters underground. These hand-carved caves have a rich history - they served as an ammunition depot during World War I, and during World War II they were the largest air raid shelter outside London, protecting more than 15,000 people each night during the Blitz.
In the mid-20th century, the caves hosted concerts by legendary bands such as The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd.
Today, you can explore their secrets on 45-minute lamplight tours, listening to tales of Romans, Druids, Saxons, smugglers and murders.
