Description
The Dongmen Bridge is a historic bridge built in 1746 during the Yuan Dynasty that even delighted Marco Polo during his trip to China. This 81-meter-long bridge was painstakingly rebuilt in 2003 after being destroyed by flooding in the 1980s.
Admire the elaborate carvings on the railings depicting traditional Chinese motifs: plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum. Look out for two carvings of water beasts on the bridge's pillars, which ancient beliefs say protect against floods.
In addition to being a historical landmark, the bridge is also a popular culinary spot with a restaurant where you can enjoy local delicacies.
