Description

The Potala Palace is an architectural marvel built 3,700 meters above sea level in Lhasa, Tibet. This monumental structure consists of the White Palace (the Dalai Lama's residence) and the Red Palace (housing the chapels, libraries and tombs of the eight Dalai Lamas).

The granite walls, up to 5 meters thick and reinforced with copper for earthquake protection, house more than 200,000 statues and 10,000 altars. The eight golden roofs of the Red Palace are crowned by stupas containing the remains of the Dalai Lamas.

The interiors are decorated with intriguing paintings and sculptures depicting historical events and figures, making this place a treasure trove of Tibetan culture and spirituality.
