Chairman Mao Statue

The Statue of Chairman Mao is an imposing 18-meter-high monument that is a landmark of Kashgar. The monument was erected in 1969, at the height of the Cultural Revolution.

The statue depicts Mao Zedong in his classic pose, with his right hand raised. At the base of the monument are smaller statues of workers, peasants and soldiers who supported Mao's revolution.

It is an excellent site for lovers of Chinese history and culture to better understand China's recent past and the importance of the cult of the individual during the communist period.
