Description
Castel Nuovo in Naples is a medieval fortress that is one of the city's most important monuments. Built between 1279 and 1284 by order of Charles I of Anjou, it combines Gothic and defensive styles.
The castle hides dark stories, such as the 'Prison of the Barons,' where nobles were imprisoned and executed, and the legend of the 'Prison of Prosa,' where prisoners mysteriously disappeared, supposedly thanks to a crocodile.
Today it functions as the city's museum with an impressive art collection, including frescoes by Giotto and works by artists from the Caravaggio school. It's a real treat for history and art lovers.
