Description
Buttercross Monument is a fascinating monument of medieval architecture in Winchester. Originally used as a market place, this impressive monument dating back to the 15th century impresses with its rich ornamentation and twelve sculptures depicting saints and important historical figures.
Built on a five-step octagonal base, the monument was painstakingly restored in 1865 by G. G. Scott. Its distinctive, soaring silhouette with numerous pinnacles is an excellent example of Gothic art.
It is an ideal place for history and architecture lovers to admire the craftsmanship of medieval craftsmen.
