Description
The Brukenthal Palace is an impressive Baroque monument in the heart of Sibiu, built between 1778 and 1788 by Samuel von Brukenthal, governor of Transylvania.
It is Romania's first museum, founded in 1817, and impresses with its rich collections of European art from the 15th to 18th centuries. The palace combines Neoclassical and Baroque elements, and its facade is decorated with ornate stone ornaments.
The museum complex includes six buildings with diverse collections ranging from an art gallery to a library with rare manuscripts to a museum of pharmacology and natural history.
