Description
The Port of Echuca is a unique historical monument that is one of Australia's finest cultural heritages. Built in 1865 by the Victorian Railway, the port was a major shipbuilding center for the river transport industry.
The site is famous for its tradition of building and restoring paddle steamers - more than 100 such vessels were constructed here. Today you can admire an authentic working steam port with Australia's largest fleet of paddle steamers.
Also unique is the Evans Brothers Sawmill, which, as a working exhibit, shows how the prized red eucalyptus wood used to build boats, bridges and buildings was processed.
